Multitest Software Update
The Multitest software (also called the Multitest PC interface) is a program that allows you to communicate with and update your Multitest II or Multitest 3 tool.
- Download the procedure to build your own Multitest II cable.
- Download the procedure on what to do to have the Multitest II working with the new 2-Way XRT (RSS-5224).
Step 1:
Download the program.
Note: In order to install the Multitest software, you must be logged in as an administrator or as a member of the Power Users group. If it’s not the case, have an IT technician install it for you.
Step 2:
When prompted, select RUN or OPEN to start the download.
Step 3:
When the download is completed, follow the Setup Wizard instructions. This will install the program on your computer.
When Setup is almost completed, check the right option before clicking on Finish.
If using a Multitest 3 and the drivers for the PC-LINK adapter have not yet been installed:
Make sure to check the "Multitest 3 owners: View…" option and uncheck the "Launch Multitest" option. Click Finish and then follow the steps in the PDF document to install the drivers for the PC-LINK adapter.
If not using a Multitest 3 or if the drivers have already been installed:
Make sure to uncheck the "Multitest 3 owners: View…" option and check the "Launch Multitest" option. However,
do not click on Finish until you performed Steps 4, 5 and 6 below.
Step 4:
For Multitest II: In the Multitest II kit, you will find a 9-pin gray adapter called DB-9. It needs to be connected on the back of your PC as shown in the following picture. The ports can be named COM1, Serial or RS-232. If your PC does not have any of these connectors, you can purchase a USB to RS-232 adapter at any specialized computer store.
For Multitest 3: Simply connect the PC-LINK adapter cable to any USB port on your computer. If the drivers are already installed (if not, please read the installation document in the folder where you installed the Multitest software), this will emulate a serial (COM) port, which is required by the Multitest software.
Step 5:
For Multitest II: Now, use the black connector with phone jacks on both ends. Be careful, these 2 phone jacks are different, the larger one goes to PC side and the small one to the Multitest II port labelled
PC.
For Multitest 3: Connect the PC-LINK adapter to the Multitest 3 port labelled
PC-LINK.
Step 6:
For Multitest II: Press the
ON button and then press the
Update button. The message on Multitest II screen will show "UPDATE MODE, PLEASE CONNECT TO PC".
For Multitest 3: Press the
ON button and then press the
PC-LINK button. The message on Multitest 3 screen will show "PC-LINK MODE, PLEASE CONNECT TO PC".
Step 7:
If you didn’t click Finish in Step 3 above (as instructed), now it’s time to do it. When done, the Multitest software will launch and the COM Port selection screen will appear. You have to select the right available COM Port on which you connected the tool in Step 4 then click OK.
Step 8:

The program will detect the tool, if not, check all connections, configuration or try another COM port (click on
Connection --> Select COM Port or close the program and reopen it). If it's still not detected, you probably have a peculiar configuration on your PC or you have some other program using the COM port (EX: Palm or Pocket PCs). At that point, have an IT technician fix this problem.
Step 9:

When the program detects the Multitest tool, it will tell you if you need an Update. If yes, you will see a message (see picture at right) asking if you want to do it now. Click Yes and the Update process will start. That should take approximately 6 minutes for a Multitest II and less than a minute for a Multitest 3. Do not unplug the Multitest during that step.
Step 10:
